Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is the CEO of Bahrain International Circuit. He is widely credited as bringing Formula 1 to Bahrain, initiating the construction of the Bahrain International Circuit, enabling Bahrain to become the first Middle Eastern country to hold a Grand Prix (in 2004). His decision to bring Formula 1 to Bahrain was part of a centralised strategy to increase the Kingdom’s presence in the region and promote an image of prosperity, worldwide. Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Company pays F1 $40 million to hold the GP there and also Mumtalakat now own 50% of the McLaren Group and for 2012 has been invited on the board for the Concorde Agreement.
