Singaporean style
The news of Frederick Lee headlining this year’s Amber Lounge fashion show will put the Singapore Grand Prix in every fashionista’s diary as well as every race fan’s that day.
Those attending the Singapore Grand Prix are set to celebrate in style as it was announced that Singaporean designer, Frederick Lee, will headline this year’s Amber Lounge fashion show.
Amber Lounge is well known for bringing together two of Singapore’s passions – fashion and Formula One. The club, set up by Sonia Irvine, Eddie’s sister, started with a simple principle of creating a truly VIP nightlife experience that reflected the glamour and exclusivity of one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.
Over the years, Amber Lounge has done just this and has created a reputation for itself as a unique venue where stars and regular race goers can come together to enjoy a great night. This year, Amber Lounge is set to run in Monaco, Singapore, Delhi and Abu Dhabi.
The fashion show, which will be hosted on Saturday September 24, during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, was first launched in Monaco in 2006 under the High Patronage of H.S.H Prince Albert II, to raise funds for official charities. This year the money raised in Monaco will go towards the Special Olympics. The event has gained support from many high-end brands including Jimmy Choo, Chopard and Martini and has become an established favourite with the world?s celebrity social elite.
This year in Singapore, the models will sashay down the catwalk dressed in Frederick Lee’s latest couture collection, including some pieces created solely for the event. The designer, who has won many accolades, including ‘The Best of Singapore’ by Singapore Tatler for his bridal wear, is famous for his flamboyant dresses and his fashion-as-performance-art theatricality. He is one of Singapore’s most sought after designers and pushes boundaries in fashion design as we know it by challenging ideals, and his use of non-traditional materials.
Nearly twenty years in the business has not jaded the designer’s sense of high drama and glamorous style. His exuberant designs are synonymous with the relentless pursuit of beauty that still make him L’Enfant Terrible in the industry.
Commenting on his desire to produce an exclusive number of bespoke pieces for the event, where some secret Formula One drivers will also be modelling, Frederick said; “The Amber Lounge Fashion show is like a ‘limited edition’, it’s a one off, entertaining everyone with a show that’s unique, exciting and extremely glamorous - just like my own designs. I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
The Grand Prix Season Singapore returns from 16 to 25 September 2011. The event is going to include top-notch entertainment, music performances and exhilarating dance parties.
