MY FANTASY F1 TEAM: Jake Humphrey

Drivers

I’d go with Jim Clarke for his incredible guts, desire, determination and talent and I would pair him alongside Ayrton Senna. I realise there may be a bit of friction between two born winners, so see who I’d have in charge!

The Designer

Definitely Colin Chapman. I love reading the stories about how he was always pushing the envelope and was a tough taskmaster. Chapman, Ferrari, Jordan...what an outfit eh? They would be based in Norfolk in the old Team Lotus garage which still harks back to a bygone era. I’d build a runway for our team principle to fly in and out as he pleases!

The Team Principal

It has to be Enzo Ferrari. With two talented drivers and the fastest car on the grid, I’d need the ultimate boss to take charge. I went to his office in Maranello...untouched since he died and incredibly emotional.

The Team Owner

Of course, I’d have EJ [Eddie Jordan] owning the team. Partly because I’d like to see how he and Enzo get along. I love his madness and he’d bung me a free paddock pass or two. On a serious note he took a young, poor by comparison team and almost won the title. He has such drive and energy and he’d need every ounce of it in my team!

The Car

I’d take the Red Bull RB6. What Adrian Newey has done with that car is just amazing. Every part, no matter how small, has been developed to the Nth degree, and it shows. An amazing car, beautiful to look at and deservedly the most advanced Championship winning car in history.

The Livery

I grew up watching Ayrton in the JPS livery lotus and even for me now it is the classic F1 livery. It reminds me of breathtaking, dangerous racing in a classic era. It was the car that helped me fall in love with F1.
