Lotus C-01 motorcycle timeline: Lotus Motorcycles was established to design and build the first motorcycle of the iconic car manufacturer. The bike will be named Lotus C-01 and will be the most impressive appearance on public roads on two wheels. It will reflect a combination of lifestyle, design and high-end technology.

Combine the talents of the man who designed the light cycles in the film “Tron: Legacy” with the storied past of sports car maker Lotus and you end up with the wild-looking Lotus C-01 motorcycle. (Just look at the pictures!)

A prototype of the highly anticipated bike “is now road registered and ready for action,” according to a Lotus press release from Feb. 20.

But don’t get your hopes up thinking you might actually get your hands on a C-01: A representative for Lotus Motorcycles told The Huffington Post the approximately $137,000 bike, which was first announced last year, will be limited to 100 units and the waiting list is already “very nearly oversubscribed.”

The response from the public and the media to the C-01 has been incredible. We have received thousands of sales enquiries!

Add to that the fact that the C-01 was designed by none other than Daniel Simon, whose past projects have included the Bugatti Veyron and the fantastically futuristic vehicles seen in movies such as Tron: Legacy, Prometheus and Oblivion, and the reasons why the bike is as good as it is beginning to become apparent.

Lotus C-01 will be a hyper bike with integrated racing technology. It will be manufactured of materials like carbon, titanium and aerospace quality steel, which are also used in Formula 1. Safety, ergonomics and design are the most important factors the design team has put emphasis on. It will be a state of the art motorbike powered by an approximately 200 horsepower engine.
