Billionaire liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya is the founder of the Force India Formula 1 team. As chairman of United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines, he has bankrolled the fortunes of his F1 project, moulding the former Eddie Jordan-owned outfit into a very successful racing team. Educated at St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, Mallya is an independent MP and has philanthropic interests in his homeland and instrumental in delivering Formula 1 to India for 2011. His airline, Kingfisher, has hit a little turbulence of late, but Sahara Force India was a commendable 6th overall in 2011 and 7th in 2012, 6th in 2013 and 2014, now being in sixth place as well.
