A former touring car racer, Hermann Tilke has provided some of the most iconic racing circuits around the world thanks to a background in civil engineering and a love for motorsport. As Ecclestone’s architect of choice for new Formula 1 circuits, Tilke has constructed a lucrative career out of his masterpiece visions, from Abu Dhabi to Austin. Despite this, some observers are critical of the German’s interpretation of Formula 1 racing and claim his designs, which exude a character of long straights, followed by tight hairpins to support overtaking.
