Deutsche Post and its subdivision, DHL, has been active in the sport for over a decade following its sponsorship of Jordan Grand Prix, in response to the FedEx/Ferrari tie-up, and later became a Global Logistics Partner of Formula 1. Deutsche Post are also sponsors of the Mercedes AMG Petronas team, following a logical step to exploit all things related to German motorsport, with their iconic Posthorn logo. Appel, who oversaw the Mercedes partnership, replaced the outgoing boss of Deutsche Post, following a tax evasion scandal and has been with the company since 2000, when he joined as a Managing Director of corporate development.
