For George Russell, the racetrack has always been home. Now 27, the British driver heads into his seventh Formula 1 season — and fourth with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team — not just as a race winner, but as the senior driver leading the team into a bold new chapter.

George’s motorsport journey began in karting, where he was crowned both UK and European champion. His switch to single-seaters in 2014 was immediate proof of his potential: he clinched the BRDC Formula 4 title and earned the prestigious McLaren Autosport Award that same year.

After two seasons in the ultra-competitive FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Russell joined the Mercedes Junior Programme in 2017 — a turning point. That year, he won the GP3 Series title and made his first steps in F1 machinery, including FP1 sessions with Force India.

He continued his meteoric rise in 2018 by winning the FIA Formula 2 Championship in his rookie season, securing seven wins. In 2019, George made his F1 debut with Williams, where he impressed with strong performances despite uncompetitive machinery. A standout moment came in 2020 when he filled in for Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir GP — a weekend where, but for cruel luck, he could have claimed a dream maiden win.

In 2022, Russell officially joined Mercedes. That year, he took pole in Hungary and a commanding win in Brazil — his first Formula 1 Grand Prix victory. In 2023, he showed resilience through challenges, ending the season with a podium in Abu Dhabi that sealed second in the Constructors’ standings.

He returned even stronger in 2024, winning in Austria and Las Vegas, narrowly missing another at Spa. In 2025, Russell steps into a leadership role, mentoring rising star Kimi Antonelli and steering Mercedes into its next era.

George’s path reflects the very essence of Formula 1 — talent, grit, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. From karting prodigy to Grand Prix winner, his story is far from over — it’s entering its most exciting chapter yet.
