As title sponsor of the first ever night race in Formula 1, Singapore Telecommunications landed with a splash on the international scene when it began sponsorship of the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008. Chua Sock Koong has been CEO of SingTel since 2007 and has been credited as one of the most powerful women in business. SingTel’s strategy has been to build on a 150-year old base in fixed communications to become a global presence in the multimedia industry. The company then signed a two-year extension on the deal to host the Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. Despite no longer holding the sponsorship for the F1 Grand Prix, SingTel’s shadow is still looming over marketers’ minds.
