ARMIN STROM Edge Double Barrel

Armin Strom ups its mojo for 2016 with Edge Double Barrel. With its striking movement design and larger case size, the manual-wind wristwatch brings a vigorous intensity and gutsier attitude to the brand.

Edge Double Barrel’s ARM16 caliber features unusual geometric and angular components. Spider-shaped crown wheels visually dominate the dial, complemented by large Arabic numeral hour indicators and the 60-second register with power reserve indicator. Unconventional cross-grinding decoration of the hand-beveled bridges intensifies the watch’s industrial feel. The bezel is enhanced with a series of cutouts. The larger 46.80mm diameter provides more depth and dimensionality to the caliber.

Armin Strom decided to go with a larger case size, and while this is something many purists with likely scoff at, they did manage to produce a 46.80 mm x 13.20 mm case that does not look enormous. In fact, it wears quite well. The stainless steel case is treated with a matte black PVD finish, with polished accents on the bezel edge, the lip at 6 o’clock, the lugs edges, and the crown. Further, the new “edgier” look, is thanks to a notched bezel design, spider crown, lugs and left case flank that has had some of the material removed, and crown guards.

Technically, the new manufacture movement, caliber ARM16, beats at 2.5Hz (18,000 vph), has 194 components, including 34 jewels. The impressive power reserve is good for 192-hours (or 8 full days), thanks to double barrels, which are visible through angular cut-outs on the backside, as well as through the dial opening on the front. Additional features include an escape wheel and pallets made of gold with hardened functional areas, and a screwed balance with Breguetovercoil.

Each piece is water resistance is 50 meters and is delivered with a black alligator strap and double folding clasp in stainless steel black PVD as well as additional black rubber strap. Limited to 100 pieces.
