We talk to Barry Gough, the Managing Director of Memento Exclusives. Only one company in the world provides an extensive collection of fully-licensed, race-used Formula 1 memorabilia that’s re-engineered and hand-crafted in full collaboration with the teams. That company is Memento Exclusives, and the person behind it all is a former Formula 1 mechanic. We talk to Barry about his experience and the development of Memento’s miracles.

Memento Exclusives has been the driving force in re-writing sports memorabilia since 2010 and has official licenses with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Racing Point Force India, Williams Racing, Haas, and Renault Sport to transform their race-used components into exclusive Formula 1 mementoes. Barry notes: “I’ve worked in Formula 1 and motorsport for more than 20 years and understand just how much the fans love the sport and what makes an authentically accurate piece of memorabilia.”

The former BAR and Jordan mechanic knows more than most why quality and finish are crucial when looking to own a piece of Formula 1 – a sport that is the pinnacle of engineering: “We create luxury mementoes that reflect the prestige of Formula 1 and do the fastest sport on earth justice. Something fans will be proud to own.”

Our designers take months to develop and hand-craft pieces to ensure that they last a lifetime, whilst also preserving the condition of the components.

Talking about the process itself, Barry explains: “Our designers take months to develop and hand-craft pieces to ensure that they last a lifetime, whilst also preserving the condition of the components. Our first-hand experience of assembling and working on Formula 1 cars drives our exacting processes and attention to detail.”

Every piece is meticulously engineered within Memento Exclusives’ studio near Silverstone, the home of British motor racing. One of the Mementos’ best-sellers is a piece of bodywork in acrylic, for example: “From taking receipt of the car, we carefully hand-carve the sidepod into squares of bodywork. Each piece is logged by driver, year, and in some instances the race it was used in. The squares are hand-polished and hand embedded it into acrylic, which is printed with the official team branding. Each acrylic is hand-packed, with a certificate of authenticity, into official team gift boxes, which are then hand-wrapped. We deliver our pieces to fans all over the world, so it’s important that they arrive in perfect condition.”

We make sure that fans can own the moments of Formula 1 history that matter to them

All of the designs are conceived by the minds of Memento’s design team, with initial renders of their concepts sent to the Formula 1 teams for feedback before pieces are hand-crafted. “Thanks to our Formula 1 engineering backgrounds, professional use of the same machines and materials as-used in the sport, and direct collaboration with the teams, we make sure that fans can own the moments of Formula 1 history that matter to them,” Barry adds.
