Chase Carey (born 22 November 1953) is an Irish-born American executive. He is the former chief executive officer and executive chairman of the Formula One Group.

Carey was born in Ireland to American parents of Irish descent and received his bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and an MBA from Harvard, where he was a member of the Harvard Business School Rugby Club. While attending Colgate he joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity and was a member of the Colgate University Rugby Football Club. Today, Carey is a Trustee Emeritus of Colgate University.

Chase Carey was named Executive Chairman of Formula 1 in September 2016, and Chief Executive Officer in January 2017. He handled the strategy and operations of Formula 1, and since his appointment has focused on increasing fan engagement with the brand on and off the track, as well as taking Formula 1 to new audiences.

From 2009 to 2016, Mr Carey served as President and Chief Operating Officer of 21st Century Fox, as well as Executive Vice Chairman. He oversaw the world’s premier portfolio of entertainment, news and sports franchises as well as worldwide broadcast, pay television and satellite assets. Carey continues to serve as a non-executive Vice Chairman of 21st Century Fox.

Prior to working at 21st Century Fox, Chase Carey was President and Chief Executive Officer of DIRECTV, Inc., where he led the operations and strategic direction of the DIRECTV, Inc. companies, as well as serving on The DIRECTV Group board of directors.

He is a graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Business School and a Trustee Emeritus at Colgate University.

On September 25th, 2020 Liberty Media announced that Carey would take on the role of non-executive chairman with Stefano Domenicali stepping in as CEO as of January 2021. Carey’s achievements included the establishment of a cost cap for the first time in Formula 1 and the signing of a more equitable Concorde Agreement with the teams from 2021 to 2025.
