Jost Capito began his motorsport career in the mid-1970s, racing motorbikes and ending up winning the truck category of the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985 with his father in a Mercedes Unimog. After 5 years at BMW M GmbH, in 1989 he took his first post in the Volkswagen Group when he joined Porsche’s racing division.

In 1996 Capito moved to Sauber as a member of the executive committee. He subsequently joined Ford in 2001, where he spent an extensive amount of time as Ford Europe’s Motorsport Director working in various categories ranging from Formula Ford, Formula 1 with the Jordan Team, and the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the American manufacturer. Jost enjoyed great success in this role winning the WRC manufacturers’ titles in both 2006 and 2007.

We have the perfect mixture to move us forward. We just have to ignite that. For sure we can do that. I’m sure that as a team, we can do that, and get the passion back. I’m pretty convinced of what we have – with the backing of Dorilton we have now – otherwise I wouldn’t sit here.

In 2012, Jost Capito returned to Volkswagen as Motorsport Director and led the marque to a period of dominance culminating in consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ WRC titles over four years.

After a short period at McLaren, he was lured back to Volkswagen in 2017 to head up the company’s expanding R division as a successor to Ulrich Riestenpatt Richter. Capito was responsible for the successful development of numerous R-badged Volkswagen models, including the latest Golf R.

On 17 December 2020, Capito was announced as CEO of Williams Racing. He takes on full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company, reporting to Matthew Savage, Williams Chairman.
