Ferrari owns the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany, which held its first Formula 1 race in 2020, coinciding with Ferrari’s 1000th Grand Prix.
Piero has worked for Ferrari since 1969, initially as an English translator for his father.
Ferrari actively supports Centro Dino Ferrari, a research centre for neurodegenerative and muscular diseases named after his late brother, who died from Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 1956. Enzo Ferrari co-founded the centre.
His billionaire toys include a private jet, helicopter, and the164ft superyacht called not surprisingly race.
Piero loves his boats and, in contrast to his father, in the understatement of the decade, Piero said, “My dad was a car guy.”
Piero first became directly involved in F1 in 1974 when he worked as a co-organiser, assisting sporting directors Luca di Montezemolo and Daniele Audetto.
At the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix, he made history when he collected the constructor’s trophy, which marked the first time a member of the Ferrari family stood on a podium.
Pierro remains the optimist, and at this year’s Bahrain GP, he told journalist Leo Turrini, “Now, I hope to win at least one Grand Prix in the season that is about to begin in Bahrain. I don’t think I’m asking too much….”
Adding, “We have to use the money we spend in racing to have more spectacular races, competitions that the general public can understand and get excited about.”
This passion is further illustrated when he told motorsport.com, “Look, the discourse is broader: with the effects of the pandemic, it is not possible to follow F1 except through television. We are racing the fastest single-seaters in history, but the images that come to us from the TV fail to give those sensations that you experience when you are on the circuit, and the perceived is the real one.”
What influence does Piero Ferrari have in F1?
Well, the name alone opens doors, but the real influence in F1 rests with Executive Chairman John Elkann.
