Michel Boeri is a towering figure in both international motorsport and Monaco’s political elite. As president of the FIA Senate and vice-president of the World Motor Sport Council, Boeri plays a pivotal role in shaping global motorsport policy. He is also the long-time president of the prestigious Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM), the organisation behind one of Formula 1’s crown jewels—the Monaco Grand Prix.

Boeri’s influence stretches far beyond the track. Within Monaco, he serves as president of the Council of the Crown, a key advisory body to the Prince of Monaco, underscoring his prominent role in the principality’s governance and diplomacy. His dual career in motorsport and politics makes him a uniquely powerful figure, especially in events where sport and state intersect.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Boeri was viewed as a natural successor to then-FIA president Jean-Marie Balestre. However, the position ultimately went to Max Mosley, who led the federation during one of its most transformative eras. Despite missing out on the top FIA role, Boeri remained an essential player behind the scenes.

In 2009, during a turbulent time for Formula 1, rumours circulated that Boeri would take over F1-related responsibilities from Mosley, following a tense standoff between the FIA and the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA). Although these reports were later denied, the speculation highlighted Boeri’s enduring presence and potential as a stabilising force in the sport.

Few individuals are as deeply embedded in the DNA of Formula 1 as Michel Boeri. His leadership of the ACM ensures that the Monaco Grand Prix retains its unique status—part race, part spectacle, and a symbol of F1’s glamorous appeal. Whether managing local affairs or attending FIA council meetings, Boeri exemplifies the intersection of tradition, influence, and the high-octane world of Formula 1.
