Ola Kaellenius was born on June 11, 1969, in Västervik, Sweden. After completing his Abitur at the Danderyd Grammar School, he fulfilled his military service in the Swedish Army from 1988 to 1989. From 1989 to 1993, he studied at the Stockholm School of Economics, earning a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting. During this time, he also completed the CEMS program at the University of St. Gallen, obtaining a Master’s in International Management.
In 1993, Kaellenius joined Daimler-Benz AG as a International Management Associate Program trainee. His career progressed quickly: in 1995, he led a team and later a department within Corporate Controlling at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In 2000, after returning to Stuttgart, he was appointed Head of Purchasing for Engine Emission Management at Mercedes-Benz Cars. This was followed by roles as Director of Project Alliance (2001) and Director of Procurement for Powertrain (2002).
In 2003, Ola Kaellenius moved to the UK to become Executive Director of Operations at McLaren Automotive Ltd. He remained in the UK as Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines Ltd. in Brixworth from 2005 onward.
In 2009, he returned to the U.S. as Vice President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc. A year later, he was appointed Vice President and Managing Director of Mercedes-AMG GmbH in Affalterbach, Germany. In 2013, he became Group President of Mercedes-Benz Cars, responsible for global marketing and sales.

Kaellenius joined the Board of Management of Daimler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG) on January 1, 2015. Initially responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales, he assumed leadership of Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Car Development in 2017. On May 22, 2019, he became Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, now operating as Mercedes-Benz Group AG. He is also Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG.
Ola Kaellenius holds dual Swedish and German nationality. His current appointment as Chairman runs through May 2029.
