Stefano Domenicali, the current President and CEO of Formula 1, began his journey in January 2021, succeeding Chase Carey. His passion for racing was ignited at an early age, as he spent his weekends at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari race track, immersing himself in the vibrant paddock and media centre atmosphere. This early love for the sport would shape his future in the automotive industry.

Domenicali’s professional journey began after earning a business administration degree from the University of Bologna. In 1991, he joined Ferrari, gradually rising through the ranks. His roles included overseeing the Mugello race from 1992 to 1994 and participating in competitions like DTM. By 1995, he had taken charge of the personnel in Ferrari’s sporting department before becoming Team Manager in December 1996. His tenure at Ferrari culminated in his appointment as Team Principal of the Formula 1 team in 2008, succeeding Jean Todt.

Under Domenicali’s leadership, Ferrari experienced both triumphs and challenges in Formula 1. The team secured the Constructors’ Championship in 2008 but faced a less competitive phase in 2009. Despite this, the team bounced back in 2010 with five race wins, finishing third in the Constructors’ Championship. Stefano Domenicali continued to lead Ferrari until his departure in January 2014, during which he also represented Ferrari at the FIA World Motor Sport Council from 2009 to 2014.

Post-Ferrari, Domenicali’s career took him to AUDI AG, where he served as Vice President of New Business Initiatives from November 2014 to March 2016. Subsequently, he assumed the role of CEO at Automobili Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese in March 2016, overseeing the luxury car brand’s operations.

Stefano Domenicali’s return to the pinnacle of motorsport as President and CEO of Formula 1 in January 2021 was a significant moment.
