Mibe’s journey with Honda began in 1987, when he joined the company as an engineer in automobile research and development. Known as a true engine expert, Mibe was instrumental in creating some of Honda’s most celebrated engines, many of which have powered Honda and Acura vehicles for more than 20 years.

  • 2009: Became an Operating Officer at Honda R&D Co.

  • 2012: Promoted to Managing Officer of Honda R&D.

  • 2014: Took on a dual role as Operating Officer at Honda Motor Co. and Executive in charge of Powertrain Business and Production.

  • 2016: Elevated to Senior Managing Officer and Director of Honda R&D Co., overseeing the Automobile R&D Centre.

  • 2018: Appointed Managing Officer of Honda Motor Co., while also serving as Executive Vice President and Director of Honda R&D.

  • 2019: Became President and Representative Director of Honda R&D Co. and took charge of Intellectual Property and Standardisation at Honda Motor Co.

  • 2020: Advanced to Senior Managing Officer, taking on a broader leadership role over Monozukuri (a Japanese term encompassing R&D, production, quality, service, and more), and was also named Risk Management Officer.

  • June 2020: Promoted to Senior Managing Director of Honda Motor Co., while continuing to lead Honda R&D.

A Vision for the Future

As the head of global R&D, Toshihiro Mibe championed Honda’s shift toward electrification and deepened the company’s collaboration with General Motors (GM).
