In 2004, Sheikh Salman took his first official role at BIC as Head of Governmental Affairs. As Director of PR and Governmental Affairs, he took an active part in how the circuit fulfilled its role within Bahrain’s community, as well as maximising the positive impressions of Bahrain for the many visiting international guests and media each year.

Before his role at BIC, Sheikh Salman worked for Bahrain’s General Organisation for Youth and Sport and was Vice President of The Bahrain Motor Federation. He sat on several sporting advisory boards and was previously a member of the FIA Single Seater Commission and the F1 Commission.

The vision of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, to build the first Grand Prix circuit in the Middle East here in the Kingdom of Bahrain was inspired and has brought recognition from around the World.

BIC remains at the forefront of global motorsport while generating a platform on which companies and individuals can benefit from diverse corporate, cultural and social activities.

As the “Home of Motorsport in the Middle East,” the BIC has an essential and dominant role in developing the sport throughout the region. The Bahrain Grand Prix is our crown jewel and the focal point of our year. However, the circuit is a dynamic facility that is seen throughout the World as the benchmark for other circuits and sporting venues.

Formula 1 confirmed in 2022 that Bahrain will stay on the F1 calendar until 2036 inclusive, following the agreement with the promoter, The Bahrain International Circuit, to extend their contract.

Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Bahrain International Circuit, said:

After 18 years of F1 racing, we are proud to have played a part in F1’s rich history, and we are now looking forward to continuing to build on that heritage well into the future. The growth and interest in Motorsport in Bahrain and the Middle East have significant momentum, with a new generation of fans embracing our great sport. We look forward to continuing that progress.
